Brooklyn?

Filed under: Life — Erika @ 8:30 am

I think I’m going to try to live in Williamsburg for a year. For those of you that don’t know, Williamsburg is about a 4 minute subway ride into the city and also one of most famous hipster meccas of the world. It’s also home to some amazing bars and restaurants (that don’t cost a pretty penny like in Manhattan).

So.. why Brooklyn? Honestly? If I’m going to live in a borough besides Manhattan, I might as well do it now while I’m young. I have two weeks to decide if I want to stay in my current apartment (which I love but you know.. I want something new. Why is the grass always greener?!???)

This brings to mind all the other apartments in which I’ve lived. I’ve moved EVERY YEAR! My first year in NY, I lived in THREE DIFFERENT APARTMENTS! Maybe that’s why I don’t think it’s such a big deal to move.  I’ve been allllllllllll over. The village, Gramercy, Financial District, Upper West Side.. my dream would be to live in Tribeca (or West Village) but those are obviously way too expensive. Besides that, I don’t think I’d live elsewhere. It’s time to experience Brooklyn.

NYSE tour

Filed under: Life, Photos — Erika @ 12:18 pm

My boss has a friend who works for the New York Stock Exchange so we were given a private tour of the trading floor! After 9/11, NYSE stopped with the public tours so my team and I were incredibly excited. The tour was half an hour long @ 3:30 so we were able to watch the trading floor in action AND watch the market close. We spoke with a Barclays Capital trader and he explained his job to us. The trading floor isn’t as loud and crazy as I thought it’d be (like in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) because everything is automated now. Oh, and we were probably on various finance news channels, lurking in the background. The tour was really, really cool!

It’s over with A. He called me today and said we probably shouldn’t see each other anymore. Whatever! Plenty of fish in the sea. Not going to lie, my ego is a bit bruised but I can’t really do anything about it, so.. just need to accept it and move on, right? Anyway, I say this while I’m waiting for one of my girflfriends to finish painting her nails so we can go meet our other girlfriend at a club. Ohhhhhhhhhh New York. You are good for us single girls. ;)

PRs (personal records)

Filed under: Life — Erika @ 7:59 am

I had a 4 mi race on Saturday and I beat my personal record! I ran it in 37:06 – that’s an average pace of 9:17/mile. I’m so proud of myself!!! I paced myself with a few runners during the race and yes, I got tired around the 3rd mile but I kept on pushing!

I’ve been doing crossfit since February and I really think it’s been paying off. I took a break for about 4-5 weeks in the spring because I was injured so I’m slowly starting to get back into it and I feel GREAT! Anyway, I need to get ready for work. Have a good Monday, everyone!

Happy 4th of July!

Filed under: Life — Erika @ 9:30 am

What I simultaneously love and hate about NYC is that you are never alone. I’ve been a witness to a lot of private moments and I’m sure I’ve had my own share of such moments. I mean, there’ve been so many times in which I’d pass by some girl BAWLING into her phone. And it’s amazing how people talk about such personal things in public. I totes do it too but it still amazes me that, as strangers, we’re all privy to EVERYTHING. Nothing is private anymore — someone else is sharing your experience with you, whether or not they’re directly involved.

Anyway. I’m going to walk Peanut and then go for a run. Have a great 4th of July everyone!

Incredibly delayed.

It’s been 4 dates with A now — pretty sure that entitles me to say we’re dating. Right? I don’t know the rules actually.. but whatever, we’re kind of seeing each other. I don’t really know what to say?

Anywho, I took him out for an AMAZING DINNER last night. I highly recommend the cevicheria Desnuda in East Village. AMAZING. Expensive but worth it. We had raw oysters, tuna ceviche and LOBSTER ceviche. Oh and coconut rice. DELICIOUS. Everything was so flavorful and the fish was so delicate.. and we had a bottle of wine as well. Dude, it was an expensive dinner. After I saw the bill, I told A that he was paying for all my drinks thereafter. hahaha.

Everything’s been going swimmingly I think.. except for the fact that he said he doesn’t really know anything about me. He actually asked me what I do on weekends. This makes me wonder if I’m actually not as open as I thought I was? This was something that an ex had actually said about me — he said he tells me everything but he feels like I didn’t tell him anything. I guess I need to work on that. I feel very open with all my friends though?

At the risk of sounding excited and girly and completely honest — I really like this guy. I hope it goes somewhere special.
